Alsons Hidilyn scholars named

Alsons Hidilyn scholars named Alsons Power Group officials together with 2016 Rio Olympics weightlifting silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz officially presented five weightlifters who were chosen as Alsons Hidilyn scholars on Saturday morning at Universidad de Zamboanga (UZ) Institute of Human Kinetics Veterans Campus. Oscar Benedict E. Contreras III, head of corporate communication, Alsons Power named the scholars as Citadel Callenero of Talon Talon National High School, Desiree Jane Garcia of Mampang Elementary School, Jane Linete Hipolito of UZ Senior High School, Rose Jean Ramos of Mampang Elementary School, and Rosegie A. Ramos from UZ Technical High School all of these students are from barangay Mamapang. According to Contreras, these students were chosen by Hidilyn Diaz, Philippine Weightlifting Association (PWA) vice president councilor Elbert Atilano, and coach. These five scholars are part of the current pool of weightlifters training under the supervision of the PWA. They choose these athletes based on their performance during the year round competitions, academic performance, and family income level. The scholars will receive P40,000 for their school supplies, and transportation and food allowance. This is part of the Alsons Power Group Corporate Social Responsibility when it comes to education and to honor Diaz for bringing glory to the country and at the same time, boosting the interest in sports and encouraging potential weightlifting champions in Zamboanga and in the entire Philippines. “You are the future you do our country proud, you will do Zamboanga City proud. Make sure stay in school stay focused you are great athletes. God bless may life take you to greater heights in what you are doing we are glad to help you thank you for giving us the chance to help you finish your studies and become great athletes and become great citizens of our country.” Contreras said. Meanwhile, Hidilyn Diaz who was also present during the presentation told the scholars to do their best in school and train hard. “The opportunity for you is already there…go to school, train, and dream high.
